Are Internet + TV Bundles Worth It Anymore?

The Get Internet Cable Deals TeamMarch 25, 2026 8 min read

Five years ago the conventional wisdom was: cut the cable, pay for streaming, save money. In 2026 it's not that simple. Streaming services raised prices, fragmented their content, and started running ads on the basic tiers. Cable bundles got cheaper and added more streaming-style features.

For some households the bundle still wins. Here's how to figure out if you're one of them.

Run the actual math

List every streaming service you currently pay for. Add internet. Compare to a cable + internet bundle that includes equivalent content. Most people are surprised by the result.

A typical household stack might look like: Netflix ($16), Disney+ bundle ($20), HBO Max ($16), Hulu Live for sports ($82), plus a 300 Mbps internet plan ($55). That's $189/month — and you still don't have local-news live or premium sports networks.

A cable + internet bundle with comparable channels typically lands $30–$60/mo cheaper, depending on the market.

When the bundle wins

  • You watch live sports — especially regional teams or sports beyond NFL/NBA
  • You watch local news regularly
  • You want premium series (HBO, Showtime, Starz) and currently pay for them as add-ons
  • Multiple people watch different channels at the same time
  • You hate juggling 6 streaming apps and remembering passwords

When streaming-only wins

  • You only watch a couple of shows on specific platforms
  • You don't care about live sports or news
  • You're fine with everything being on-demand, not appointment TV
  • You can be disciplined about rotating subscriptions month to month

Hidden bundle benefits people forget

Bundles also collapse logistics. One bill instead of seven. One support number when something breaks. One install appointment for everything. One company to call when you move. That's not nothing — most households underestimate how much time goes into managing a streaming stack.

Cable DVR is also still better than every cloud DVR in streaming. Cable DVR records reliably, plays back instantly, fast-forwards through ads cleanly. Streaming DVRs are still finicky.

How to actually evaluate it for your house

Add up your current monthly streaming and internet costs. Compare to a bundle quote that matches the channels you actually watch. If the bundle is cheaper or close, the logistical simplicity tilts the answer to bundling. If streaming is significantly cheaper, the answer is to stay streaming-only.
